Chiropractors
Good or Bad?
Anyone with any experience in the sports and fitness fields knows
that injuries are inevitable. There are many different roads to
recovery, some easier to determine than others. Hopefully this
article will help you in some of your decisions in seeking help.
For example, if you break your leg you might hurry off to an
orthopedist, followed by a physical therapist.
Many people live in pain and with injuries for years. I have seen
plenty of medical doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists
as well as some alternative practitioners for one problem or
another. Sometimes there is only so much that each can do or know.
So, do we live with the pain or find some one who can possibly
help?
About seven weeks ago, after coming home from the gym, I was
cooking lunch when the phone rang. Answering the phone I placed it
clenched between my chin and shoulder. Then, all of a sudden I
cannot move my neck. An old, annoying friend of mine was back.
After icing my neck and taking Ibuprofen for six weeks, the pain
began to subside. Ok, I thought, I could now get back to the gym.
Then three days later, I was washing the dishes and there goes the
neck again.
I finally made the decision to get help.
Where do I go from here?
I always found that the best way to find a new doctor is through
referrals, so I called my good friend Joe Carbone and asked him
the name of his chiropractor. He gave me the phone number of
Brendan Murray, D.C.
I went to see him immediately. I walk into a warm and friendly
office. Dr. Murray was very knowledgeable, friendly, in-depth in
his explanations and attentive to my needs. After his initial
evaluation, a few minor adjustments followed by a massage and an
ultra sound, I was feeling 75 percent better. I was told that
after about three more visits and some exercise suggestions that I
would be fine. I was very happy at this point.
There are many different kinds of chiropractors with many varying
levels of experience. Active release, energy work, and networking
are a few methods that some Chiropractor combines with their
practice. These methods have helped many people including me. It
is all about who is performing them and how much do they know.
In the passed, I have been in offices that line you up, adjust you
and send you on your way not really knowing what is going on,
except that you are on this long chiropractic schedule with no
end. I have also been to Chiropractors that seem not to know
anything more then me. Do I want them adjusting me? Then on
another note, I have had great experiences, like the one with
Doctor Murray.
I have found it beneficial if the chiropractor is familiar with
sports and fitness activities. Even better, if they actually play
sports and or works out. I have found them able to relate to what
I was trying to explain. In addition, here are a few of my
petpeevs. They should know the biomechanics of the muscles, the
origins of insertions to say the least and be patient while
listening to what you have to say. Trust is a crucial factor in
choosing a chiropractor. If you cannot trust the chiropractor
after the first visit there is no point in continuing the
relationship.
Throughout my career as a personal fitness trainer, I have been to
many different chiropractors over the years. Unfortunately, there
were many chiropractors that did not help me. I have found four
chiropractors to date that I consider trustworthy. Brendan Murray,
D.C. is the newest one added to the list.
A lot of people do not believe in, or are afraid of, chiropractors
because of myths they have heard or bad experiences that they have
had. A bad experience should not deter you from seeking help. Many
good chiropractors are out there and the goal is to find the one
best suited for your needs.
